The majority of students enrolled in my Life Science class are contemptuous and disrespectful towards the professor. Professor Cohen is the coolest, most visually
instructive, dynamic and competent professor on campus. The students are missing out on
some of the greatest lectures in class, because they are too busy cheating
off of each other and slithering away during breaks!
The professor finally reached her boiling point and lectured the class over their academically immature actions. They continued to laugh and disrespect her! No professor deserves this treatment, especially in college! The students begin to whine when she tells us to set our cell phones and back packs up front before tests......why are they so SURPRISED? Are they so oblivious of their childish actions that they fail to recognize their wrongdoings?
On a brighter note: I have retained so much information! I have incorporated what I learned from her teachings into normal conversations and into the real world....
As a subordinate to the professor, it is my job to collect and retain information. To ensure my success, I have academically applied myself to meet her standards.
:) Below I have posted an uplifting email from myself to the professor.

Hello Professor! Is the
midterm on the 9th? I have a chance to speak with the mayor of Aurora on
the news at the school I help tutor at for the Reading Partners Program....which would be at 1pm. But, if the midterm takes place this day, I will be in
class. I also would like to say a few things.
1. I love science. It is
my favorite subject and has been since I was in Elementary school. In high
school I excelled in Biology and Anatomy. I also like Ag. Science, (coming from
a farm). As a Nutrition Major, I can not wait to help others by utilizing my
knowledge of science and food to help improve organizations such as hospitals, restaurants, non-profits and schools.
2. I love the way you
teach! I understand what you are saying and I can actually retain that
information! I have had many science teachers but I can visually understand
everything this time of round.
3. You do not deserve
the disrespect that is coming from the majority of the class. It upsets me that they continue to walk out during break! No professor should ever have to
deal with this, especially in college! I would just like to let you know that I
think you are an amazing professor and would like to thank you for your awesome
job so far! Unfortunately, some students are going to miss out on some of
the best scientific lectures they will receive, if they keep slithering away.
4. I have been utilizing topics you have discussed in class into normal conversations! I love being able to
incorporate what I learn from class into the real world. In my Leadership class
I discovered the terms "Formal and Informal Communication". (Teacher
to student, student to teacher). So far, our class is lacking in the "informal" department. You are there to teach us because you are
passionate about educating the younger generation! As part of my generation, I
find it extremely important to demonstrate academic maturity and growth. I was
also affected by this experience, because it also saddens/ upsets me when
students as a whole act in this way. I care about my generation and my future.
But, once again...
thanks for enlightening my brain so far!

The Reply
Dearest Amy,
Of course I will work with you to accommodate your needs for that
day (9th). Are you available on the Wednesday the 10th to take it?
Your note to me is so very sweet and it does make me feel a
lot better. It is because of students like you that I wake up in the
morning. Thank you so much, Professor Cohen
To further my point, I would like to compare my professor and her students to the leader and students of the famous film, Coach Carter.
Coach Carter was a perfect example of what a leader is. He held many characteristics that inspired his subordinates. Carters’ leadership transformed throughout the movie. He was a committed mentor who deeply cared for his followers, community and life in general. Carter was able to transform a group of rambunctious boys into men, both outside and inside the school. His leadership expanded through the schools, community, families and students. However, he faced many trials while coaching basketball to the rambunctious group of boys. Carter was hesitant to take the coaching position, especially after witnessing the lack of academic progression and the failed student athlete system. Coach Carter decided to cross the threshold, restore the imbalance of the team, set a professional and friendly example, pursue the organization and community and focus on the actions and ideas of his subordinates.
My classes consist of students who are stubborn, refuse to learn from their leaders, set unprofessional examples and rather than pursuing their lectures, they pursue their phones. As a leader, my professor has to make critical decisions to professionally transform the student body. Each day she tries approaching the students differently, but the students refuse to transform. Will she succeed? I hope so, but she can not succeed on her own. She must receive the informal communication from her students.

To the students in my classes......
How will you prepare for leadership in the future when you can not simply prepare yourself to learn from leaders in the classroom today?
